Georgia’s Health IT Strategy: Priorities of the Department of Community Health and the Morehouse Regional Extension Center for use of a combined $32 million in funding from ONC.

Georgia’s Office of Health Information Technology and Transparency (HITT) has been awarded $13 million in ARRA funding for the advancement of Health IT. Archie Banks, Interim Director, will share HITT’s short-term and long-term strategic plan, and Deidra Dorsey and Montra May will present their strategic initiatives for the Medicaid Incentive Program and State Health Information Exchange Program, respectively.

On the Federal level, the HITECH Act authorizes a Health Information Technology Extension Program including the establishment of Regional Extension Centers. The Morehouse School of Medicine was recently awarded $19.5 million by ONC to establish a Center in the State of Georgia. The Center will offer technical assistance, guidance, and information on best practices to support and accelerate health care providers’ efforts to become meaningful users of Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Dr. Dominic Mack from Morehouse will provide information on current plans for the Center's Outreach and Education activities, as well as the vendor selection process.
