Women In Technology Raises Record-Breaking $400,850 at Sold-Out WIT Connect

WIT recently announced the grand total raised at their yearly event, WIT Connect, held on June 24 at the Atlanta History Center.  With over 400 attendees from the technology community involved, the amount raised nearly doubled last year's total.

Women in Technology (WIT) is announcing today the total raised at the 2010 WIT Connect: Connecting for a Cause is more than $400,000 – nearly double last year’s total. The event, held Thursday at the Atlanta History Center, gathered more than 400 of the technology communities’ leaders, auctioning the time of nearly 70 high-level executives of 31 top Georgia corporations to support WIT programs and philanthropy initiatives.

“The phenomenal results of WIT Connect confirm businesses are spending money on new projects, and we are all delighted with the response of the technology community,” said Theresa Brunasso, co-chair, WIT Connect. “WIT wholeheartedly thanks the executives who are giving their time for meetings, the many companies who bid for these executives’ time, and all the attendees who make WIT Connect the executive networking event of the year. The money we raised will benefit both women in the technology community and the girls who are looking forward to careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics."

Debey Stratton, co-chair, WIT Connect, concurs the success of this year’s event is the result of an enthusiastic technology community primed for an invigorated economy - and a team of dedicated volunteers.

“The 2010 WIT Connect event was absolutely electric,” says Stratton. “Our sponsors, the auction candidates, WIT’s tireless volunteers – each exceeded all my expectations. It was especially exciting to have a few young women from the Milton and Walton High School Robotics teams attend WIT Connect this year. They are the future leaders of the technology community – we’ll be bidding for their time one day!”

Nearly 30 percent of attendees bid on silent auction companies via their iPhone or Blackberry – a new technology for this year’s event. This cutting-edge live mobile auction technology streamlined the process of a bidder’s ability to track activity on their bids.

The co-chairs for 2010 WIT Connect: Connecting for a cause are Theresa Brunasso, D&S Microwave and Debey Stratton, Genesys. The 2010 WIT Connect: Connecting for a Cause sponsors are Oracle, Gold Sponsor; and Cbeyond, Muddy Faces, Exact Target, 3iPeople, McKesson, HiQo Solutions, What’s Up Interactive and Datum Software, Silver Sponsors. Heather S. Rocker serves as WIT’s executive director.
