2013 Excalibur Awards Now Accepting Nominations and Applications
Awards Recognize Georgia’s Most Innovative Tech-Enabled Companies and Organizations
ATLANTA (May 23, 2013) – The Technology Association of Georgia in collaboration with the Business and Technology Alliance of TAG (B&TA), are now accepting applications and nominations for the 2013 Excalibur Awards. These annual awards recognize Georgia companies and organizations that demonstrate the best use of technology, typically provided by a third-party, to solve complex issues and processes in business and education. Tech-enabled companies that develop their own non-commercial technology solutions to enhance their organization are also encouraged to apply.
Applications will be accepted until August 16th 2013, after which, Semi-Finalists will be selected by the Excalibur Judging Committee. Companies selected as semi-finalists will then be required to submit a more detailed application or they may submit a 3-minute video focused on the complexity of the problem, creativity of the solution and the return on investment (ROI)/Business Results. Each video will be reviewed by the Judging committee which will then select finalists who will compete for the Excalibur Awards.
The winning companies will be recognized in one of five categories:

· Mid-sized Companies
· Large Companies
· Educational Organizations
· Most Creative Solution

Technology business professionals come together to serve the south Atlanta community
ATLANTA – May 20, 2013 – High Tech Ministries, a non-profit organization in Atlanta with thousands of local technology community constituents, announces the completion of its eighth Serve@Work project. The project, which ran from May 7 to 9, included major renovation of a thrift store, as well as landscaping improvements to a playground and surrounding grounds.
Twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, Serve@Work provides an opportunity for technology professionals from local companies to serve the broader Atlanta community. Recently, High Tech Ministries has been supporting FCS Urban Ministries in South Atlanta. FCS is an organization that transforms distressed neighborhoods to make them self-sustainable through Christian community development.
“Working together in joint mission to serve others, and seeing lives transformed as a result, is a powerful thing,” said Todd Sorenson, president of High Tech Ministries. “It helps to get outside of our normal daily routine. Our Serve@Work volunteers tell us that they feel like they receive more than they give, including deepened relationships with colleagues with whom they share the experience.”
High Tech Ministries is in its fourth year of Serve@Work projects. Each Serve@Work project spans a three day period and involves 100-150 volunteers that work for one or more half day shifts. TAG Seeks Participants for National Day of Civic Hacking
Event focused on improving people's daily lives through technology.
ATLANTA (May 20, 2013) – The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), announced today that it is seeking groups from across the state to participate in the first ever National Day of Civic Hacking on June 1-2, 2013.
National Day of Civic Hacking will bring together citizens, software developers, and entrepreneurs to collaboratively create new solutions using publicly-released data, code and technology at events all across the nation. In addition to TAG, the event is sponsored locally by CareerBuilder, Google, MailChimp and the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC).
Communities that participate are able to leverage the expertise and entrepreneurial spirit of those outside of government to drive meaningful, technology-based solutions to solve issues that are important to their communities.
In Georgia, TAG is hosting several events whereby citizens can submit tech-focused challenges to “Civic Hackers” in communities across the state including:
