TAG Societies

The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) is, at its essence, an umbrella organization for a large variety of smaller groups, or "Societies," which TAG divides into three categories: People, Function, and Industry. Each Society is represented by their own board or directors, sponsors, and hosts their own regular events. The Society pages on TAGthink are where the people involved in these groups connect and share in-depth information on a daily basis.

Excellent conversation on "Networking in Todays Diverse Marketplace" tonight at 5 Seasons Prado! Thanks to everyone who came out. To those who missed up, I hope you enjoy this short summary of salient points...

It's always great to get together and engage in meaningful dialog about what "diverse" truly means... Rosalia Thomas shared some of her experiences on the topic and opened the floor to the audience to share some of their insights. Some of the highlights:

We learned a lot about accents - If you have one, you have to own it. Just as important, if you don't understand what someone is saying because of a heavy accent ask them to repeat. We live in a globalized world and we need to get past the unnecessary "politically correct" formalities.

We should look past "gender diversity" as a measurement of diversity. In other words, a group with men and women does not necessarily a diverse group make. Diversity in perspective is key - cultures, values, religion, families are all important elements to consider when contemplating diversity in thought.

"Differences can be advantageous"... You can learn a lot from others with backgrounds diverse to your own -whether it's someone from a different country, different age group or different business industry. Rosalia encouraged the audience to ask others how they do things differently from the way we do things. Ask how they approach topics, issues, tasks... You'll likely learn something.

With regards to social media and technology, we should all be aware of the importance of mixing the mediums... In other words, be diverse in your method of communication. Remember that some things should be delivered in person, on phone and others in email.

I got this note from our April event speaker Lara Hodgson. Please take a second to see if this makes sense for you to help with, thanks!-

Note from Jasmere CEO:
Instead of selling our typical high-end jeans, brownies or handbags, jasmere will be "selling" a $90 donation of critical supplies for Haiti - at the special price of $32. To make this possible, we partnered with a very innovative company called http://www.nourish-inc.com/. Their unique water bottles - BPA-free, reusable & recyclable, spill-proof, contamination-resistant and filled with purified spring water, were originally conceived as a solution for moms-on-the-go. Turned out, they were also a perfect answer for the unique challenges of an earthquake-ravaged nation that lost what little infrastructure it once had.

One cool element of this program is that Lara (Nourish CEO) will write the name of and/or message from each donor on a case of water, ensure that it is photogaphed "in-transit" and send the snapshot to the donor as a thanks and souvenir. And they also receive a free bottle of Nourish sent to their home. And Nourish is picking up 98% of the differential between what the customer pays on jasmere and what it costs to produce the product and send it to Haiti. Jasmere is providing access to our thousands of daily visitors, as well as a modest financial contribution.

As you might know (well, at least two of you do!) Katrina and I each have a cousin with a very close tie to Haiti. Not that this makes us any nearer to that tragedy than the average American, but somehow made us a little more eager to try and help. Spread the word, make a donation yourself, or just an FYI - whatever you see fit. Thanks for the interest and support.
